Hippopotamus, the African river horse

Today’s featured African animal is the Hippopotamus. Apparently the name comes from ancient Greek and means ‘river horse’. Despite the name, they are more closely related to whales than horses. They are vegetarian, but one of the most dangerous of the African animals due to their aggressive territorial nature.

  1. They are huge. What is that bird thinking of doing a piggy back ride on him – Snorts and rolls with laughter. I guess I need to rethink wanting a hippopotamus for Christmas huh? XOXO – Bacon
