Here’s a photo of a cedar waxwing (bombycilla cedrorum) that I took last year. These birds never seem to hang around any one place for very long, which makes it hard to get pictures of them. I was using my Canon 1.4x extender when I took this shot, hence the long focal length. It helps you get closer at the expense of focusing ability (at least with the lens/camera combo that I was using).

Ah, such beautiful birds. They are definitely difficult ones to photograph, always on the move.

Aye, they do look almost painted…like a watercolor wash. Speaking of painted birds, I’ve always wanted to see a painted bunting…one of the most colorful small songbirds, vibrantly colored.
