Last summer I got a reverse macro filter for my 50mm lens. The way it works is you put it on the lens as if it were a regular filter, but then remove the lens from the camera and mount it backwards on the camera. It lets you get very close to your subject, the catch is it is only manual focus and the aperture has to be set before you flip the lens. It’s a cheap alternative to getting a real macro lens so you can figure out if you enjoy macro photography before investing money in a good lens. I took these shots of a wooly bear caterpillar this way. It was difficult because the little guy almost never stopped moving.
